What Munwyn is — factually
Munwyn is a personal knowledge application of the “second brain” kind. It captures thoughts as text, voice (with transcription) or images; AI summarises them, files them into areas and connects them into a map — a 2D map and a 3D atlas. Search works in natural language. The Today screen brings saved thoughts back: daily insights, a Sunday letter, contradiction detection, open loops and tasks extracted from text. The core (unlimited thoughts, search, the 2D map) is free forever; the paid Munwyn Insight tier adds the full 3D atlas and AI syntheses, and the Munwyn Direct tier runs on the user’s own API key. The app runs in the browser, in English and Czech, uses no tracking cookies, and AI processing can be switched off per thought.
Why Munwyn
There are plenty of note apps and most of them are good. These are six things that make Munwyn different — not that nobody else can do them, but few have them together.
It does not wait until you remember
Most second brains are drawers: what you put in stays there until you come for it. Munwyn connects thoughts on its own and brings them back to you — in the Sunday letter, in insights, in returns to older notes.
It answers only from what is yours
When you ask, the answer is built from your own thoughts and every claim shows which one it came from. When nothing is found, it says so plainly — it makes nothing up.
AI can be switched off for one thought
The “Keep from AI” switch sits on every single note, not just in account settings. A marked thought is never sent to the model. The AI operations log shows what was sent and when.
Your own key, if you want one
On Munwyn Direct you attach your own API key and pay the model directly, with no monthly ceiling. You do not have to trust that we set the limits well.
You can take your data with you
Exporting the whole archive is a button in the app, not a support request. You get JSON and Markdown — both usable elsewhere. Locking people in is not a business model.
Privacy is not an add-on
The data runs on a server in the EU, and what Munwyn sends to the model is never used to train it. The AI operations log shows every operation after the fact — privacy here is a setting, not a promise in the footer.
